INFORMATION FOR OUR CLIENTS REGARDING TRANSFER OF TAX INFORMATION
There is a Federal regulation now in effect regarding the release of tax information to third parties. This regulation limits tax return preparers’ use and disclosure of information obtained during the return preparation process to activities directly related to the preparation of the return. The regulation delineates how preparers, with the informed written consent of taxpayers, may use or disclose return information for other purposes. Generally, what this regulation requires is that tax preparers obtain the signed consent of the taxpayer, on paper or electronically, before they can disclose taxpayer return information to a third party or use it for any purpose other than in the context of preparing and filing the return. This means any client wishing for this office to transfer, through any means, tax related information to a third party will now be required to sign a Letter of Consent, copies of which may be obtained through our office.
Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this matter.
